The headline-grabbing BBC documentary “My Friend Sasha: A very Russian murder” is temporarily available on Google video (although it might soon be removed for copyright breach).
The film has been in the news not just for its unseen footage of Litvinenko but also for the threats its director Andrei Nekrasov received during the film’s final cut for the BBC programme, Storyville.
In the making since 2000, the film seems to have been originally intended as a general documentary on Russian corruption and cronyism, for which Nekrasov also interviewed Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, the oligarch Boris Berezovsky and many others. But that doesn’t diminish its status as a powerful insight into the mind of Litvinenko and Russian dissidents.
